At the launch of Nvidia GeForce Now, Activision Blizzard games were originally on the service. That is no longer the case as all of Activision Blizzard’s games have disappeared from the service. Nvidia did a post about the disappearance of the games on their forum board where they said: “As we take GeForce NOW to the next step in its evolution, we’ve worked with publishers to onboard a robust catalog of your PC games.” The post continues, “This means continually adding new games, and on occasion, having to remove games – similar to other digital service providers.”
While this isn’t something out of the ordinary that happens on digital services especially in the streaming world, it is rare that it happens with no forewarning as the games just disappeared. Nvidia did say in the post that the removal of the games was per Activision Blizzard’s request, as they said the following: “Per their request, please be advised Activision Blizzard games will be removed from the service. While unfortunate, we hope to work together with Activision Blizzard to reenable these games and more in the future.” It would be nice to get a little more insight as to why the games were removed but it more than likely comes down to money.
The removal of the games is unfortunate but also serves as a reminder that we can never get too comfortable with the content on our digital services. As we may one day be enjoying it and the next day it is removed. We’ll be sure to report about any new information regarding the removal of Activision Blizzard’s games when it comes to light.
