Insomniac Games is now part of Sony’s Worldwide Studios

Announced yesterday, Insomniac Games has been purchased by Sony Interactive Entertainment and is now part of their Worldwide Studios. Insomniac Games has always had a close relationship dating back to the original PlayStation days with the development and release of Spyro the Dragon. The good relationship continued well into the days of the PS2 and PS3 with exclusive franchises like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance.

While Insomniac Games has developed games for other platforms including the Xbox One game Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac Games and Sony have always had a good relationship to the point where one might’ve wondered why Sony didn’t already purchase Insomniac Games. However, the recent success of Marvel’s Spider-Man that Sony Interactive Entertainment published and Insomniac Games developed might’ve helped give Sony a push to finally make the purchase. As the game not only went on to be nominated for and win various Game of the Year awards but it was also a statement as to how well Insomniac Games works with Sony. The just-announced acquisition will also surely help the inevitable Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to become an even bigger success when it is eventually released.

Insomniac Games now joins other studios part of Sony’s Worldwide Studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Polyphony Digital, Sucker Punch Productions, Media Molecule, and more. This addition also brings the number of Sony’s worldwide studios up to 16. Ted Price, the Ceo and founder of Insomniac Games issued a statement about joining Sony’s family on the Insomniac Games website.

This certainly marks a new chapter for Insomniac Games but also shows that Sony is dedicated to delivering not just high-quality games but the absolute best games they can deliver to players.
