Team GO Rocket and Shadow Pokémon Have Invaded Pokémon GO
Pokémon GO players will begin noticing some changes in Pokémon GO as today marked the beginning of Team GO Rocket’s Invasion. Team GO Rocket is a new version of Team Rocket that is exclusive to Pokémon GO. Team GO Rocket members invade PokéStops for thirty minutes at a time before moving onto to a new PokéStop. PokéStops that are currently being invaded will be black and have a giant R over it. If you choose to visit a Pokestop when it is being invaded, you will initiate a Pokémon battle with a Team Rocket grunt who will use a shadow Pokémon.
Shadow Pokémon have a darkness within them and have red eyes as a result of the darkness. The battles against Team Rocket grunts work the same as they do in PVP modes in the game, and when defeating the grunt you will have the opportunity to catch that grunt’s shadow Pokémon the same way that you would catch a Pokémon during a raid. Once you catch a shadow Pokémon, you will still have to purify it though with purification. Purified Pokémon are stronger than normal Pokémon as they feel they owe their trainer for saving them from the darkness.
Of course with this new update, there are also new medal rankings in the game for the number of Team Rocket grunts defeated and the number of Shadow Pokémon Purified.
