Tekken X Street Fighter is “Harder to Justify” But Still Possible
In an interview with VGC in Tokyo, Tekken designer and producer Katsuhiro Harada game some details about the current state of the long-delayed Tekken spinoff Tekken X Street Fighter. Tekken X Street Fighter was first announced at 2010’s San Diego Comic-Con as was revealed alongside Street Fighter X Tekken which ended up being released in 2012. By 2016 many gamers thought Tekken X Street Fighter was canceled as there was a lack of any updates at this time and Tekken 7 was already released, but Harada said that Tekken X Street Fighter was just on hold. Now in 2019, Harada has said to VGC that he originally was holding off on Tekken X Street Fighter because both Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 just released and he didn’t want to split up the community.
Harada said he is still up for making Tekken X Street Fighter but it’s “harder to justify especially with the success of Tekken 7 as a service game. As both the Tekken 7 base game and it’s DLC continues to sell well. With a season 3 of Tekken 7 almost guaranteed it’s unknown when and if we’ll ever see Tekken X Street Fighter.
